Lakhnow: (Tamsil Shahezad Khan) The incident occurred while the brothers were being escorted for a medical check-up in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, and has shocked the nation.


The slain gangster, who had faced over 100 criminal cases, was recently in the news as his son, Asad, was killed in a police encounter in Jhansi just two days prior. Atiq's lawyer, Vijay Mishra, claims to have witnessed the shooting and said that someone from a crowd of people disguised as reporters fired the fatal shots at Atiq and his brother from close range.


Police have announced that three suspects have been arrested in connection to the murder. This tragic incident underscores the ongoing issue of gang-related violence in Uttar Pradesh, and authorities must work to bring those responsible to justice.


A viral video shows the gruesome incident of gangster Atiq Ahmed and his brother being shot in the head while talking to reporters. Many shots were fired and witnesses informed that a constable and journalist were also injured. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has formed a three-member judicial commission to investigate the incident and has banned gatherings in all districts of UP. 


Ahmed was a convicted Samajwadi Party MP in a kidnapping case and an accused in the murders of Raju Pal and Pal's lawyer. He was brought to UP from an Ahmedabad jail on Tuesday and had alleged he would be killed in an encounter. Opposition party leaders have criticized the Yogi Adityanath government for failing to maintain the rule of law, while the ruling party has cryptically responded to the incident.


On Tuesday, Atiq Ahmed was transferred from a prison in Ahmedabad to UP where he expressed fear of being killed in an encounter and pleaded for his family to be spared. AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi tweeted about their murder being a result of Yogi's failure while Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav commented on the high morale of the criminals in the state. UP Minister Swatantra Dev Singh added a cryptic line in response. Atiq Ahmad had been interrogated by the UP Police near the grave of his son.
