Hyderabad, February 4th: In a significant move, the Telangana government has decided to change the state's abbreviation from 'TS' to 'TG'. This decision, announced after a state Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, marks a departure from the abbreviation chosen after the state's formation in 2014.
Shifting Gears: From 'TS' to 'TG'
Minister D. Sridhar Babu, while addressing the media, stated that the previous government's choice of 'TS' lacked a clear rationale and appeared arbitrary. He emphasized that the new abbreviation, 'TG,' stands for "Telangana Ganga," reflecting the state's cultural and geographical identity. This change will be reflected in official documents and vehicle registration numbers, replacing the previously used 'TS.'
Beyond Abbreviations: Symbolic Changes
The state government's decision extends beyond changing the abbreviation. Plans are underway to modify the Telangana Talli statue to better represent the people's sentiments. Additionally, the iconic song "Jai Jai Ho Telangana" by renowned poet Kaloji Narayana Reddy will be adopted as the state song. To foster a collaborative spirit, a new state emblem will be designed with input from various stakeholders.
Promises Fulfilled: Gas Subsidies and Free Electricity
In line with previous election promises, the Cabinet approved measures to provide subsidized cooking gas cylinders at Rs. 500 and free electricity up to 200 units per household. These initiatives, along with two other undisclosed "assurances," will be formally implemented after discussions in the state Assembly, which commences on February 8th.
A New Chapter for Telangana
The decision to change the state's abbreviation, along with other planned modifications, signifies a fresh start for Telangana. These changes aim to better reflect the state's unique identity and fulfill promises made to the people. With the Assembly session set to begin, further details on these initiatives and their implementation are expected to unfold soon.
