Mumbai, October 1, 2024 - Renowned Bollywood actor and former Member of Parliament, Govinda, 60, was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Criti Care Hospital in Mumbai early Tuesday morning following an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The incident occurred around 4:45 AM as the actor was preparing to leave for a 6 AM flight to Kolkata. According to his manager, Shashi Sinha, Govinda was placing his licensed revolver into its case when it slipped from his hands and discharged unexpectedly. The bullet struck the actor's knee, causing significant blood loss.

"The revolver apparently fell while being kept in the cupboard and misfired. It is due to God's grace that Govinda sustained only a leg injury and it was nothing serious," Sinha told reporters.

Emergency services rushed Govinda to Criti Care Hospital, where doctors successfully removed the bullet. His condition is reported to be stable, and he is currently receiving necessary medical attention.

Hours after the incident, Shiv Sena spokesperson Krishna Hegde released an audio clip from Govinda, reassuring his fans. In the recording, the actor stated in Hindi, "I am doing better now. I suffered a bullet injury, but I am feeling fine now. They have removed the bullet."

Police have confiscated the weapon and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the firearm discharge.

Govinda, a prominent figure in Hindi cinema, also served as a Member of Parliament from 2004 to 2009, representing the Indian National Congress. Recently, he joined the Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) faction. The actor comes from a family with deep roots in the film industry; his father, Arun Ahuja, was an actor, and his mother, Nirmala Ahuja, was an actress and singer.

Married to Sunita Ahuja since 1987, Govinda has two children: daughter Tina Ahuja, who made her Bollywood debut in 2015, and son Yashvardhan.

As Govinda continues his recovery, fans and well-wishers from across the country have expressed their support and prayers for the beloved actor's speedy recuperation.
