Moscow – Russia has issued a stern warning to the United States against providing direct military assistance to Israel, cautioning that such action could dramatically worsen the volatile situation in the Middle East as Israel and Iran remain locked in a six-day-long air war.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov on Wednesday condemned any potential U.S. military intervention in support of Israel, saying it would “radically destabilize the entire situation.” His comments, carried by the Interfax news agency, come amid intensifying regional fears of a wider conflict.

“This would be a step that would radically destabilize the entire situation,” Ryabkov said, cautioning Washington not to even entertain such “speculative options.”

His remarks followed reports that President Donald Trump and his national security team are weighing possible responses to Iran’s escalating missile and drone strikes on Israeli cities. Among the options under consideration is U.S. participation in joint strikes targeting Iranian nuclear facilities, according to a source familiar with internal U.S. deliberations.

On Tuesday, Trump took to social media to openly speculate about targeting Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. “We are not going to take him out (kill!), at least not for now,” the former president wrote, fueling speculation about Washington’s next steps.

The escalating tensions stem from Israel’s surprise airstrikes last Friday on several Iranian nuclear sites, as well as on senior scientists and military commanders. Russia, a key strategic ally of Tehran, swiftly condemned the Israeli offensive as “unprovoked and illegal.”

Iran has since retaliated with a barrage of missile and drone attacks, hitting several Israeli cities and infrastructure sites. The rapidly intensifying conflict has alarmed global powers and raised concerns about a broader regional war.

In separate comments Wednesday, Sergei Naryshkin, head of Russia’s SVR foreign intelligence service, warned that the situation between Israel and Iran had reached a “critical” point.

Despite its firm warnings, Moscow confirmed that diplomatic channels with Washington remain open. Ryabkov noted that “contacts between Russia and the United States on the issue are ongoing,” though he did not elaborate on the nature or frequency of those exchanges.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, who earlier this year signed a strategic partnership treaty with Iran, has publicly called for a cessation of hostilities and urged both sides to de-escalate.

The warnings from Moscow come as regional and international actors brace for further developments. As Tehran reels from Israeli airstrikes and civilians flee key urban centers, diplomatic options appear to be narrowing fast.

The Pentagon has already announced the deployment of additional fighter jets to the region, signaling Washington’s preparedness to act should the conflict spiral further out of control.

With no sign of immediate de-escalation and tensions running high, the coming days are expected to be critical in determining whether the Middle East stands on the brink of a broader, more dangerous confrontation.
