JAMNER, Maharashtra, By Tamsil Shahezad Khan - A 21-year-old man aspiring to join the police force, killed after being brutally assaulted by a mob in Jamner on Monday, sparking widespread outrage and protests demanding justice.

Suleiman Rahimkhan Pathan, a resident of Betawad Khurd village, had traveled to Jamner on Monday afternoon to submit his application for police recruitment. The young man, who had completed his education up to the 12th standard, had been preparing for the police recruitment process.

While sitting in a cafe in Jamner, Suleiman was approached by a group of local communal youths who became suspicious of his presence and his intention to apply for police recruitment. The group forcibly removed him from the cafe and launched a brutal assault before he managed to escape.

Despite his injuries, Suleiman was able to return to his hometown of Betawad Khurd, where he recounted the harrowing experience to his parents. However, his condition rapidly deteriorated, and he collapsed at home. His family immediately rushed him to Jamner Upazila Hospital, where he was declared dead upon arrival.

News of Suleiman's death spread quickly throughout the region, triggering immediate outrage from the local community. A large group of people gathered at the Jamner Police Station, staging a sit-in protest to demand justice for the young man's death. The demonstration created significant tension in the town as emotions ran high.

Recognizing the gravity of the situation and the potential for further unrest, Superintendent of Police Maheshwar Reddy personally traveled to Jamner to address the agitated crowd. He assured the protesters that the matter would be thoroughly investigated and successfully restored law and order to the area.

The Jamner Police Station has registered a First Information Report (FIR) under section 103(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which specifically addresses punishment for murder committed by a group of five or more individuals acting in concert with motives stemming from identity-based hatred or discrimination. Under this section, each member of such a group can face the death penalty or life imprisonment, along with substantial fines.

The police investigation has moved swiftly, identifying ten suspects in connection with the brutal attack. Two individuals have already been detained as the investigation continues.

This tragic incident has once again highlighted concerns about mob violence and communal tensions in the region, with the victim's aspirations to serve in law enforcement making his death particularly poignant for the local community.
